East Hanover Author Salutes The 1923 New York Yankees

East Hanover author, Ronald Mayer, has written a new book titled, The 1923 New York Yankees: A History of Their First World Championship Season.  This was the team that launched the greatest dynasty in sports history... and this story has never been told until now. The 1923 Yankees boasted such stars as Babe Ruth, Wally Pipp, Joe Dugan and Bob Meusel.  Led by diminutive manger Miller Huggins, the Yankees won the pennant by 16 games before claiming the franchise’s first Word Series title.  Five Yankee pitchers won 16 or more games that year, led by Sam Jones (21-8) and two Hall of Famer’s Herb Pennock (19-6) and Waite Hoyt (17-9).  The team won their first World Series in six games  finally defeating John McGraw’s New York Giants after losing to them in Series play in 1921 and 1922.   This fascinating book covers the 1923 season and World Series in great detail, highlighted by interesting biographies of all the key players, including Lou Gehrig’s first season.  Unfortunately Gehrig was ineligible for the World Series. There are many rare photos sprinkled throughout the book.  It’s a must read for all avid Yankee fans.  This book can be purchased directly from the publisher, McFarland in Jefferson, North Carolina or online at Amazon.com, as well as borrowed from the East Hanover Public Library.   This is Mr Mayer’s fifth book.  He is currently working on a novel for children.
